Region 1 Open House on Flood Risk and Insurance

Residents of Massachusetts and Rhode Island are invited to join FEMA staff and state and local officials for an opportunity to view the updated flood maps for the Quinebaug Watershed Floodplain Mapping Study.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) released preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps for the Quinebaug watershed which includes communities in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The maps have new information about the community’s flood risk and inform insurance rates and purchase requirements. They help community members decide how to protect themselves, their properties and their belongings against future flood events. The maps and the associated Flood Insurance Study are the basis for each community’s floodplain management.

The virtual open house includes a presentation and an opportunity to chat one-on-one with FEMA staff and state and local officials. Residents of Massachusetts and Rhode Island are invited to join to received assistance with:

• Finding your property on the new flood maps
• Understanding your flood risk
• Flood Insurance
