Sacramento, California: $14.98 million

Project Description

The city of Sacramento flooded nine times from 1952 to 1997. After the community received a report that showed the North Beach Lake Levee will not protect against a 100-year flood event, the city seeks to improve the levee. The project includes raising the levee to 24.5 feet, relocating a pump station, adding drainage ditches, and leveraging a nature-based solution to create a wind-wave buffer which protects against wave erosion and improves habitat quality

The North Beach Lake area is a socially disadvantaged area and largely a residential community. More than 95% of the structures – 24,139 out of 24,798 -- are homes which house over 90,000 residents. The goal of this project is to increase the level of flood protection to the 200-year event.
