ONE MONTH LEFT TO APPLY FOR FEDERAL ASSISTANCE [https://www.fema.gov/news-release/20200220/yeonbang-jiwon-sincheong-nameun-gigan-1gaewol] Release Date: May 1, 2019 _$71.5 Million Approved for Alaskans Affected by Nov. 30 Quake_ ANCHORAGE, Alaska – More than $71.5 million in federal assistance has been approved to help residents in the Municipality of Anchorage, Matanuska-Susitna Borough and Kenai Peninsula Borough recover from the Nov. 30 earthquake. Alaskans have one month left to register with FEMA for disaster assistance. The deadline is midnight on Friday, May 31.  Residents who think they may have damage, but it is not yet apparent, should register as soon as possible. Alaskans who registered with the state before Feb. 28, need to register with FEMA to be reconsidered for the State Individual Assistance program. Call the state hotline at 855-445-7131 for more information. FEMA, the U.S. Small Business Administration, the state and voluntary agencies can help residents with applications, appeals and low-interest loans at disaster recovery centers. These specialists are available at three centers in Anchorage, Eagle River and Wasilla. To find a center near you, visit www.fema.gov/DRC [http://www.fema.gov/DRC].   A snapshot of the disaster recovery effort as of April 30 follows: * More than $11.6 million in FEMA grants has been approved to help homeowners and renters. * More than $59.9 million has been approved by SBA in federal disaster loans for 1,416 Alaska businesses and residents to help pay for uninsured and underinsured damage. * 7,874 (98 percent) home inspections have been completed. The goal of federal disaster assistance is to jump-start the recovery process; it is not intended to make you whole. Insured applicants may receive assistance for items not typically covered by earthquake insurance such as wells, private septic systems and for privately owned access roads. Complete an SBA low-interest disaster loan application for additional assistance. SBA can offer loans while insurance claims are pending and for insurance deductibles.
