FEMA AWARDS $767,323 GRANT TO THE STARK COUNTY PARK DISTRICT [https://www.fema.gov/press-release/20250121/fema-awards-767323-grant-stark-county-park-district] Release Date: March 15, 2017 CHICAGO – The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has released $767,323 in Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) funds to the Stark County Park District in Ohio for the mitigation of five flood-prone residential structures in the floodplain of the Zimber Ditch and the West Branch of Nimishillen Creek. These structures will be acquired and demolished. "The Flood Mitigation Assistance Grant Program enables communities to implement critical mitigation measures to reduce or eliminate the risk of loss of life and property,” said Janet M. Odeshoo, acting regional administrator, FEMA Region V. “This project will lessen the financial impact on individuals and the community when future flooding occurs in this area.” “Zimber Ditch has been a recurring problem,” said Sima Merick, executive director of the Ohio Emergency Management Agency.  “We are pleased to partner with both FEMA and the Stark County Park District on this important project.” FMA provides grants to state and local governments to implement long-term hazard mitigation measures. Through FMA, FEMA will pay $767,323 of the total $964,380 eligible project cost. The remaining funds, $197,057, will be provided by the Stark County Park District.  FEMA’s mission is to support our citizens and first responders to ensure that as a nation we work together to build, sustain, and improve our capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards. ### _Follow FEMA online at __twitter.com/fema_ [https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2Ffema&data=01%7C01%7Cjdcarey%40dps.ohio.gov%7C988e69dd2ed443e4018b08d466581dad%7C50f8fcc494d84f0784eb36ed57c7c8a2%7C0&sdata=Q%2BTwA%2B9T5XFhyE8Np9Pse3XAI2N5vBo010FFuA7TbtE%3D&reserved=0]_, __twitter.com/femaregion5_ [https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2Ffemaregion5&data=01%7C01%7Cjdcarey%40dps.ohio.gov%7C988e69dd2ed443e4018b08d466581dad%7C50f8fcc494d84f0784eb36ed57c7c8a2%7C0&sdata=VqwlIaJTKrp2GHVdTqrW9QeC%2F2wX2g0t33kC4rd%2BHT0%3D&reserved=0]_,_ _www.facebook.com/fema_ [https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fglobalmessaging2.prnewswire.com%2Fclickthrough%2Fservlet%2Fclickthrough%3Fmsg_id%3D6636627%26adr_order%3D201%26url%3DaHR0cDovL3d3dy5mYWNlYm9vay5jb20vZmVtYQ%253D%253D&data=01%7C01%7Cjdcarey%40dps.ohio.gov%7C988e69dd2ed443e4018b08d466581dad%7C50f8fcc494d84f0784eb36ed57c7c8a2%7C0&sdata=G2eHV8926F3yEof4z%2F%2F0m00uPytScrMFSnMYqFyoAsI%3D&reserved=0]_, and __www.youtube.com/fema_ [https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fglobalmessaging2.prnewswire.com%2Fclickthrough%2Fservlet%2Fclickthrough%3Fmsg_id%3D6636627%26adr_order%3D201%26url%3DaHR0cDovL3d3dy55b3V0dWJlLmNvbS9mZW1h&data=01%7C01%7Cjdcarey%40dps.ohio.gov%7C988e69dd2ed443e4018b08d466581dad%7C50f8fcc494d84f0784eb36ed57c7c8a2%7C0&sdata=kTo2Ba740l7VWzbMh2osb%2BylpYQSLRgZG68MFa1RpNs%3D&reserved=0]_.  The social media links provided are for reference only.  FEMA does not endorse any non-government websites, companies or applications._ Cassie Ringsdorf, (312) 408-4455, cassie.ringsdorf@fema.dhs.gov
