AUSTIN, Texas – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded more than $2.7 million to the city of Ingleside in San Patricio County for debris removal following Hurricane Harvey.
The city removed 329,627 cubic yards of vegetative and construction and demolition debris from public rights of way. The activity included collection from rights of way as well as hauling, staging, reduction and monitoring the debris.
This grant of more than $2.7 million follows a previous award of $855,000 for debris removal in Ingleside. The program requires a 10 percent non-federal match, or $402,089. This brings the total cost of the debris removal to $4 million.
This funding comes from FEMA’s Public Assistance grant program which reimburses communities for actions taken in the immediate response and during recovery from a disaster. Eligible applicants include states, federally recognized tribal governments, U.S. territories, local governments, and certain private nonprofit organizations.
FEMA obligates funding for these projects directly to the state. It is the state’s responsibility to ensure that the eligible sub-recipients receive these awards. Following the state’s review process and upon receipt of appropriate documentation, they will provide funds to the sub-recipients on a reimbursable basis.
