Environmental Requirements to Apply for FEMA Funding

When a community applies for FEMA funding — such as Public Assistance, Hazard Mitigation Assistance or Preparedness Grants — potential impacts to the environment and cultural resources must be considered.

COLUMBUS – Homeowners and renters with disaster-related damage or loss from the March 14 tornadoes in Auglaize, Crawford, Darke, Delaware, Hancock, Licking, Logan, Mercer, Miami, Richland and Union counties have just a few more days to apply with FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). July 1 is the last day you can file an application.

Through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), FEMA has awarded the first increment of a $3.18M grant for the acquisition of 18 flood-prone homes in the Ecorse Creek floodplain. The properties will be purchased for fair market value, returned to natural open space and deed restricted to prevent future loss.

The Biden-Harris Administration, through FEMA, announced today a $9,962,147 Building Resilience Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant has been awarded to Hamtramck, Mich., for a flood risk reduction project. Hamtramck residents have experienced frequent basement and street-level flooding due to the city’s undersized sewer system. Federal funding will be used to install larger sewers, an overflow structure and a relief sewer to handle larger storm events while reducing the impacts of flooding for residents.
